Defending champion also starts
Until today, Friday, it was unclear whether Melanie Maurer would compete in the World Triathlon Powerman Long Distance Duathlon World Championships in Zofingen this Sunday. This was due to a long-lasting foot injury. Now it is clear: the 35-year-old native of Wikon will compete for the title.
Here is a short interview with Melanie Maurer
Melanie Maurer, did you decide to start when you put on the new national team kit for the first time in the middle of the week?
Melanie Maurer: No. I only decided to do it after the doctor’s visit to the foot specialist, who gave the green light for the long distance.
Your goal on Sunday?
To get the best out of my current form and to give everything I can on that day.
The fact that Petra Eggenschwiler, who won the 2018 World Championship title in Zofingen before you, is now also competing gives you the additional Swiss women power?
The fact that Petra is also competing makes no difference to me. This year I didn’t even look at the start list because I want to concentrate even more on myself than usual.
Who will be world champion?
The best duathlete on that day.
Will you sleep in Wikon on Saturday night or will you go back to Hindelbank?
I don’t know where I will sleep yet.
