Melanie Maurer’s feelings of happiness

Melanie Maurer will not soon forget 4 September 2022 in her life. The 34-year-old Swiss, who grew up in Wikon/LU near Zofingen and now lives in the canton of Bern, won the Powerman Zofingen for the first time. The world championship title over the duathlon long distance has triggered real feelings of happiness in Maurer.

In the past, Melanie Maurer often had to settle for second place at major events: Vice European champion over the duathlon middle distance in 2018, 2019 and 2022, plus vice world champion over the duathlon long distance in 2018 and 2019. On 4 September 2022, her world finally turned golden: world championship title over the duathlon long distance at her home race, the Powerman Zofingen. «It was unbelievable how many messages and personal congratulations I received and how many people rejoiced with me from the bottom of their hearts.» That was really nice, she said, and she will never forget that whole day in her life. «The most impressive moment was running into the arena where so many familiar faces welcomed me at the finish line. That was the most emotional moment in my life so far», Maurer still gets chicken skin now. «I will now spontaneously do a few more races in the winter and only then plan what goals I will pursue next year.» It could very well be that the Zofingen chapter is now closed for her. «A dream has come true on a perfect day for me. » That can’t be topped any more, she said. «However, I haven’t made a final decision on that yet and I like to remain spontaneous there as well», Maurer said.
